Frequently Asked Questions
What is the role of a GT Coach?
Gifted and Talented Coaches partner collaboratively with administrators, instructional coaches and teachers to plan/implement exciting and challenging activities designed to enrich higher learning opportunities.
Gifted and talented students will find that lessons, projects, and activities are interesting, in-depth, and tailored to their individual learning styles and needs. We utilize teaching practices that research proves works, not only with gifted learners, but with all students. Gifted/Talented (GT) Coaches work with advanced students, whether the entire class, small flexible groups, or individually. Our coaches partner in collaboration with administrators, instructional coaches and teachers to plan lessons and activities that support the grade-level curriculum.
GT coaches work closely with the classroom teachers, Master and Mentor teachers and other staff to provide numerous resources and a variety of strategies to differentiate instruction for advanced learners. The delivery model is fluid and flexible in nature to support varying levels of giftedness and student interests.
What opportunities are available for advanced learners?
Students will have opportunities for advanced learning. How does the GT Coach work with my child’s classroom teacher?
Our program supports teachers with the difficult task of differentiating instruction for advanced learners. Teachers have the support of the GT Coach, someone specifically available to share the workload of designing, collecting materials for, and implementing lessons for our advanced students.
How does this affect my advanced learner?
This delivery model is fluid and flexible in nature. Varying levels of giftedness, prior knowledge in a subject, and student interest differ for each child. Flexible grouping allows us to meet the needs of students as their strengths are identified. Advanced assignments may be structured differently to meet the needs of individuals and small groups.
What is differentiated instruction?
Differentiated instruction includes effective utilization of interpretive data and reflective analysis to support changes in the pace, level, or kind of instruction in response to the learner’s needs, learning styles, or interests.
Meaningful, higher ordered learning opportunities may come in the form of flexible grouping, tiered assignments, cluster grouping, acceleration, project-based learning, and through small group, partner and/or individual activities.
